Newsletter No 2 dated August 2006



On behalf of the Branch the Hon.Secretary sent a message to Her Majesty The Queen to congratulate her on her 80th Birthday and received the following reply from Her Majesty's Private Secretary:

At the Queen's command, I have been asked to thank you for your kind message of good wishes sent on the occasion of Her Majesty's Eightieth Birthday. Your thoughtfulness in writing on this special day was much appreciated and The Queen sends her warm best wishes in return.

REGIMENTAL CHRISTMAS CARD 2006

This years card is a reproduction of a watercolour by Mr Christopher Collins, first commissioned in 1992 by Regimental Headquarters depicting 'Officers Rounds' at Windsor Castle circa 1950.

There will be one type of card. It will consist of the picture with ribbon on the outside.The inside will include the Regimental Star and Christmas Greetings. The cost of each card is 50p (£6.00 per dozen) including envelopes. Postage and package is extra. If any member would like an order form please send a stamped addresed envelope to the Hon.Secretary

REGIMENTAL DIARY 2007

The Regimental Diary for 2007 will be a 'One Week to View' pocket diary.There will be four pages of Regimental information. The cost per diary, including postage, will be £2.50.If you would like an order form please send a stamped addressed envelope to the Hon. Secretary.


BRANCH MEETINGS

With effect from September 2006, Branch Meetings will take place at 12 noon on the last Saturday of the month at the following venues:-

Wellington Barracks Royal Hospital
Saturday 30th September
Saturday 28th October Saturday 25th November

NB: No Meetings are held in January or December

This arrangement will continue until a decision is taken at the Annual General Meeting in February 2007 as to whether the meetings are to be held on the last Thursday of the month at 8pm or the last Saturday of the month at 12 noon.

N.B: THIS MONTH'S GET TOGETHER WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE LONDON DISTRICT SERGEANTS' MESS AT 8pm ON THURSDAY 31st AUGUST 2006.


THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS ASSOCIATION CUP - YORK RACES - SATURDAY 7TH OCTOBER 2006

The Coldstream Guards Association Cup Maiden Stakes will be run at the York Race Meeting during the afternoon of Saturday 7th October 2006.

Discounted badges for members of The Coldstream Guards Association are priced as follows: County Stand: £16.00 and Grandstand/Paddock : £11.00. Regimental Headquarters have obtained the exclusive use of The Sportman's Bar for members. A Tote will be operating in the Bar area from 12.50pm. To gain entry members must be in possession of their Association Membership Card. Gates open at 11:15am and racing begins at 1:35pm.

The Regimental Band will be playing throughout the afternoon. Any member who wishes to attend should complete the proforma attached to the last newletter and return it to the Hon. Secretary who will arrange tickets for you.


THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS ASSOCIATION CUP SWEEPSTAKE

In conjunction with the Coldstream Guards Association Cup, a sweepstake will be held on the result of the race. One book of sweepstake tickets has been sent to members (not to all) which it is hoped they will sell. Any profits made on the sale of the tickets are given back to the Branches who take part. Last year, the branch received £189:02 and three members won £10 each. All counterfoils, cheques and unsold tickets must be returned to: Mr Bob Appleby MBE.,The Royal Hospital,Chelsea, London SW3 by no later than Friday 22nd September 2006.Cheques should be made payable to 'London Branch The Coldstream Guards Association'. Winners will be notified of the result of the draw prior to the race meeting.

If members who have received tickets are unable to sell them will they please return them to Bob Appleby so that they can be re-distributed.


OPENING OF THE FIELD OF REMEMBRANCE AT WESTMINSTER ABBEY - THURSDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2006

A service will be held at 11am on Thursday 9th November 2006 to open the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey. Members attending should meet at the Regimental Plot by 10:30am.


CENOTAPH PARADE - REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY - 12TH NOVEMBER 2006

If you would like to take part in this year's Cenotaph Parade on Remembrance Sunday please send your details and a stamped addressed envelope to the Hon. Secretary.


CHRISTMAS FUNCTION - SATURDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2006

Th Hon. Secretary is planning for a Christmas Function in the form of either a Christmas lunch or an Evening Buffet/Disco in the London District Sergeants' Mess on Saturday 9th December 2006.

Will members please make a note of that date in your diaries and the Hon. Secretary will provide additional information ie timings and prices etc in the next newsletter.


HOUSEHOLD DIVISION CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE - SUNDAY 17TH DECEMBER 2006

The Household Division Christmas Carol Service will be held in the Guards Chapel at 11am and 6pm on Sunday 17th December 2006. Tickets are available by sending a stamped addressed envelope to: The Chaplains Office, The Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London SW1E 6HQ. There is NO CHARGE for the tickets

2006 COLDSTREAM GAZETTE

Please send any articles/photographs that you wish to have considered for publication in this year's Coldstream Gazette direct to Regimental Headquarters by Tuesday 31st October 2006.

If you wish to receive the 2006 edition of the Coldstream Gazette please fill in the proforma attached to the newsletter from the Hon Secretary. This year's edition will cover the period from January - December 2006 and will not be available until after the New Year.
